The Drone Dilemma: Why High-Tech Isn’t Always High-Quality
In the world of modern home inspections, drones are often touted as the ultimate tool for roof assessments. At Casa360 Home Inspections, we embrace technology—we use drones whenever they are practical and safe. However, a "tech-forward" approach shouldn't come at the expense of accuracy. Sometimes, the best way to inspect a roof isn't from the clouds; it’s from the gutter line or a ladder.
The Limits of the Lens
While drones capture impressive "bird's-eye" views, they have significant limitations that a veteran inspector must navigate:
No-Fly Zones: If a property is located near an airport or sensitive government airspace, strict FAA regulations may prohibit drone use entirely. In these cases, high-tech becomes "no-tech."
Weather Sensitivity: High winds and sudden gusts can make a drone unstable. Not only does this risk a crash, but it results in blurry, shaky images that can hide subtle defects like hairline cracks or minor hail damage.
The Detail Gap: A drone photo is taken from several feet (or yards) away. It cannot feel if a shingle is brittle, check for "soft spots" in the decking, or see underneath a flashing flap.
Technology is a tool, but experience is the guide. We prioritize clarity over convenience.
Why the "Old Way" Still Wins
There is no substitute for physical proximity. A veteran inspector using a high-reach pole camera or a ladder can get macro-level detail that a drone sensor often misses. We believe in using the right tool for the job—not just the flashiest one.
Our Philosophy
At Casa360, we view drones as a supplement, not a replacement. If the wind is howling or the airport is next door, we roll up our sleeves and get the shots the old-fashioned way to ensure you have the full story on your roof’s condition.
